Charles
W. Fleischmann, 74, of Blue Bell, PA passed
away on April 22, 2010. Born
in Brooklyn, NY on January 22, 1936, he is
the son of the late Viola and Charles
Fleischmann. He graduated from Franklin K.
Lane High School, earned a B.S. in Chemistry
from Queens College, M.S. and Ph.D. from NY
Poly (formerly known as Polytechnic
Institute of Brooklyn). He had over fifty
years experience in technology, particularly
energy conversion, and technical management
at corporate and division laboratories of
major companies including: Allied
Corporation (C&D Batteries, Div.); Honeywell
(Power Sources Center); NL Industries ;
Exide (R&D Center); Leesona-Moos Div; and
Mallory. Dr. Fleischmann was the author or
co-author of over fifty publications and
patents.
United States Air Force (1959 – 1962),
Lieutenant – Technical Instructor to
field-grade officers in Denver on
identification and response to chemical,
biological and nuclear weapons agents.
Ammunitions Officer in Korea, and Space
Contractor Surveillance Officer at Cape
Canaveral.
Member of the First Presbyterian Church of
Ambler, PA for over 35 years, and was an
ordained Elder and Deacon.
His honors and professional affiliations
include: NASA pre-doctoral Traineeship;
American Chemical Society; Electrochemical
Society; Life Member, American Society for
Materials,; Sigma Xi; Queens College
Committee on Science Education, National
Battery Advisory Council, Lead
Metallurgical-Electrochemical Committee of
International Lead Zinc Research Org.,
1974-1984; Electrochemical Engineering
Advisory Group to the University of
Pennsylvania, 1975-1977.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years,
Claudette E, Fleischmann (nee Lemaire) and
their three sons: Charles S. Fleischmann,
Slatington, PA; Craig J. Fleischmann,
Trappe, PA, Christan D. Fleischmann, Cherry
Hill, NJ; six grandchildren and sister,
Carol Granelli, Rockville Centre, NY.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery,
Ambler at Saturday, May 1st, followed by a
Memorial Service at the First Presbyterian
Church of Ambler 11:00 a.m. with the
Reverend Pauline Sexton officiating.
