Carole T. McGlumphy

June 11, 1932 — January 17, 2024

Carole Timms McGlumphy, aged 91, passed peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loved ones, at Abington Memorial Hospital on January 17th, 2024. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She is now reunited with her late husband of 66 years, Dr. Thomas H. McGlumphy.

Carole was born to Herbert and Madge Timms in Kansas City, Missouri in 1932. Carole was a quiet woman with a love for learning, which drove her to a life of service and education. She attended junior college after high school, and then transferred to Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. While there, she was a proud member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and finished her time with a degree in Elementary Education. This move also introduced her to Tom. They went on to marry during his service with the Army in the summer of 1954, while stationed in Hot Springs, Arkansas, before moving to the Philadelphia area for his medical career.

During her busy years as a young mom of three, she stayed active and dutiful in serving her home and community. Living just a stone’s throw away from Tom’s hospital, Carole was heavily involved in (formerly known organization) The Doctors Wives – a group that helped new mothers, planned local events, and fundraised for the hospital. She was instrumental in planning what is now a staple in our community, the June Fete! She spent many hours dedicating time to Abington Library through the Friends of the Library organization, becoming a loyal member of Jarrettown United Methodist Church, teaching elementary students in Abington School District, and cooking and delivering meals with Aid for Friends well into her 80’s. She also contributed her time and talents in many ways with her crafting abilities like sewing, knitting, and mending.

Carole is survived by her sister: Sharon Johnson, her children: Robert McGlumphy (Ann), John McGlumphy, and Sharon Rabenold (Eric), as well as her grandchildren: Allison Lang (Brandon), Delaney Rabenold, Jimmy McGlumphy, and Tommy Rabenold. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Ryder, Indie, and Teneile Lang. She was very thankful to have gotten to see this many generations of her family and enjoyed spending her final years surrounded by little ones, who lovingly coined her “GiGi”.

The McGlumphy family is very thankful to all our friends and family, the staff at Abington – Jefferson Hospital, Carole’s wonderful friend and caretaker Heather, her friends and staff at Springhouse Estates, and her loving physicians. Many thanks to Jarrettown United Methodist Church and Pastor Bob, as well as Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to the Jarrettown United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. We also ask that you consider doing an act of service for someone in your community. Cook a meal for an elderly person who may not be able to get out in the elements, drop off some blankets at the SPCA, or just call and check in on someone who may need it. That’s what GiGi would do!
