Catharine Walton Coryell, of Lower Gwynedd, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2022, at Springhouse Estates.
Catharine was born on April 20, 1930, in Norristown, Pennsylvania to the late William V. and Catharine (née McKelvey) Walton. She graduated from Whitpain High School.
Catharine’s very first job was waitressing and scooping ice cream at Bonnie View Farms, the restaurant owned by her family, across the street from her home. The ice cream was made with milk produced on the McKelvey family farm.
As a young woman, Catharine was employed as a secretary at the Norris Laundry where she met her late husband, Clarence D. Coryell. They were married on April 14, 1951 and remained married for 30 years until his passing in 1981.
Catharine also served as an Avon lady selling cosmetics and as an operator for Bell Telephone, but she was most proud of her role as activity coordinator at Springhouse Estates, a position she held for 15 years. She began as a volunteer and made the role her own in the personal care wing, raising funds for her programs by enlisting the aid of residents to make crafts and selling them at the annual Springhouse bazaars. She was recognized by Springhouse Estates for her achievements and success in her position.
Catharine was an almost eighty-year member of Boehm’s United Church of Christ in Blue Bell. She was very active in the congregation teaching Sunday School, serving on the consistory, singing in the choir, playing the organ on occasion, and was instrumental in the church’s Vacation Bible School.
Catharine is survived by her four children: Karen Coryell, C. David Coryell (Sandra), Mark Allen Coryell (Kristin), and Timothy Jon Coryell (Armand DiYenno); four grandchildren: Lily Coryell, Kathryn Coryell, Mark Coryell, Jr., and Shanna Moser; and one great-grandchild: Dominik Coryell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two siblings: William Everett Walton and John Sydney Walton.
A memorial service will be held on Monday August 29, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home, located at 145 Tennis Ave, Ambler, PA 19002. Family and friends may call beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Boehm’s United Church of Christ cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband and parents.
