Eugene Alphonsus McGonagle

Eugene Alphonsus McGonagle of Ambler, PA passed away in his sleep on March 1, 2017 at the age of 85. Eugene was born in Leiter, Culdaff, County Donegal, Ireland September 20, 1931. Son of the late Charles and Rose McGonagle. Eugene, loving husband of Theresa (Nee Docherty) for 57 years, is survived by sons John of Ambler, Vincent (Erin) of Chevy Chase, MD., and Eugene of Ambler, and by daughter Roisin Hart (Jonathan) of Ambler. Also surviving are seven beautiful grandchildren: James, Ian, Gavin, Caitlin, Colin, Declan and Keenan. He is also survived by one sibling, Sister Anastasia McGonagle F.M.S.L of St. Mary of the Angels, Knock, County Mayo, Ireland. He was predeceased by 11 siblings. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in the U.S., Ireland and the U.K. After arriving in America in 1957, Eugene was employed by the Dresher Acme as the dairy manager until his retirement. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to landscape. Eugene loved to spend time with his grandchildren, would readily lend a hand without seeking recognition, and when he spoke he did so quietly, with determination and with a recognizable Irish lilt. Friends and family may call from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's RC Church, 16 S. Spring Garden Street, Ambler PA, 19002 on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Following will be his Funeral Mass celebrating Eugene's life at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. John Docherty, London (Eugene's brother in law) and co-celebrant Rev. Eugene Tully. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
