Floyd E. Garis, 95, of Spring House and formerly of Maple Glen, passed away on June 8, 2026 at Spring House Estates.
Floyd was born on October 12, 1930 in Lambertville, NJ to the late Byron and Margaret Garis.
He briefly played football for Naval Academy before serving on Submarines in the Navy.
Mr. Garis was a well-known and accomplished teacher and coach in the Wissahickon School District. He taught Health and Physical Education for many years at the Wissahickon High School, but served as a coach for the track team for over 60 years. During this tenure as a track coach at Wissahickon, he helped the team become state champs a number of times. For his dedicated and long-time tenure as coach, he was inducted in the Pennsylvania High School Track and Field Hall of Fame. He was also instrumental in the completion of the Dome and Stadium at the High School. In addition to his service at Wissahickon, he was the co-founder of the Ambler Olympic Club.
For the last 12 years, he has resided at Spring House Estates.
He is survived by his son, Douglas Byron Garis; daughter, Arlene Kulp (Late Clarence); step-daughter, Stephanie Zucker (Philip); seven grandchildren, Joseph Dobron, Sara Schneider (Tim), Alyssa Strickland (James), Brandon Garis, William (Donnie) Garis, Amanda Kline (David), and Leah Schofield (Bill); as well as seven great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Camilla, Autumn, Logan, Abby, Jack, and Rebecca.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Garis; second wife, Roselyn S. Garis; and two sisters, June Sweigart and Barbara Pisch.
Family and friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday June 15, 2026 at Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home, 145 Tennis Ave, Ambler, PA 19002 with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will full military honors will be held privately at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
