James D. Leasure

James D. Leasure, age 88, passed away on December 11, 2024 in Chestnut Hill Hospital. 

Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 21, 1936 to the late James and Ann (née Whelpley) Leasure. He was a graduate of Germantown High School, and then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Drexel University, and later a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. He worked as a civil engineer for the City of Philadelphia, and retired there as the Chief Bridge Engineer. There are several bridges in Philadelphia bearing his name including the McCallum St. Bridge. After retiring, he worked at several other engineering firms including Lichtenstein. James lived in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia his entire life. 

He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the National and Philadelphia chapters of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann (née Dehaven) Leasure; one daughter, Lisa (Pierre) Chedid; one son, Chris (Annie) Leasure; eight grandchildren, Amanda (James), James, Tommy, Tina, Leo, and Paolo(Raqueyya); four great-grandchildren, Mari, Noah, and Lucas and (late) Christopher; as well as two siblings, Susanne (Late Norman) McNatt and Dale (Sue) Leasure. 

A funeral service honoring James’ life will be held on Tuesday December 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home located at 145 Tennis Ave, Ambler, PA 19002. Family and Friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park
