Robert J. “Bob” Walters passed away peacefully at his home on October 23, 2026. He was the loving husband to his wife, Karen (née Stem); devoted father to daughters Alice Lambert (Mike) and Sara, and sons Dave (Andrea) and Matt. He was a proud “Pop” to Emma, Addison, Owen, Gabe, Charlotte, Evelyn, Blakely, Camryn, and Farryn. He is survived by his brother, Bill Walters, and his sister, Carolyn Harkins.
Born in Philadelphia on July 29, 1945, Bob was the third child of the late William H. “Bucky” Walters and Jane C. Walters, and was raised in Glenside. He attended Cheltenham High School, where he was a standout three-sport athlete. Bob continued as a student athlete in college, playing baseball for Gettysburg College, where he was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. It was also at Gettysburg where he met the love of his life, Karen. They were married on November 29, 1970.
As a young man, Bob served in the Air National Guard, where he was trained in meteorology to ensure safety in air traffic control. He began his professional career in sales, first starting at the Budd Company in Philadelphia. Eventually transitioning into group life and health insurance, Bob took deep pride in guiding small-business owners through the complexities of health benefits.
Above all, Bob loved his family. He coached his children’s sports teams, timed at their swim meets, cheered enthusiastically from the stands and audience seats during theater plays, and cherished taking his family on walks through Valley Green.
Bob’s favorite pastime was golf. An active member at both LuLu and Old York Road Country Clubs, he often played alongside Karen—together, they even won a Husband-and-Wife Championship. Truly, his best days were spent on the golf course.
In his downtime, Bob enjoyed cheering on the Phillies, Penn State Football, and Villanova Basketball, as well as watching classic feel-good movies. He loved a good party, was always ready with a joke, and brought a smile to the room.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. https://www.heart.org/en/honor-memorial
