Ruth Edna Grytko, age 102, of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 3, 2025, in Blue Bell. Previously, Ruth lived in Marlton and Haddon Heights, New Jersey. Ruth lived an amazingly long life and was quite healthy and strong until her sudden passing.
Ruth was born in Plymouth (Luzerne County), Pennsylvania to John and Mary (Madash) Grigger on December 15, 1922. She graduated from Plymouth High School and went to a 2-year business school in Wilkes Barre. She then worked in Wilkes Barre as a secretary, and later as an executive secretary at Grinnell Company in Philadelphia for 10 years. Ruth married Carl Grytko in 1942 and they were married for 62 years until Carl's passing. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother, was always present for her family, provided loving support to her husband and children, and dedicated her time and efforts to creating a lovely home in Haddon Heights for her family. After Ruth’s two daughters were born, she was a skillful, dedicated homemaker, volunteered in her childen’s schools, and served as PTA president. Ruth and Carl enjoyed spending time at their vacation cabin in the Poconos, and often hosted fun summer get-togethers at their cabin for family and relatives. Together, they enjoyed gardening, home projects, and taking trips to Florida. Ruth was an expert seamstress, and crafted clothing, dresses, prom gowns, and Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed interior design, quilting, embroidery, and baking. In later years, she enjoyed taking local trips with friends from her retirement apartment in Marlton.
Ruth is survived by daughter, Elise Blumenthal (Dr. Andrew Blumenthal), granddaughter Summer Grimes (Greg Owens), granddaughter Carla Blumenthal (Shane Rasnak), granddaughter Amy Hiemenz (John), grandson Eric Blumenthal (Shannon), great-grandsons Kai and Jack; niece Mary Korte; nephews John P. Grigger, Skip Villante, and Gary Villante. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Carl Grytko, daughter Kathryn (Grytko) Grimes, brother Emil Grigger, sister Catherine (Grigger) Miles, brother John C. Grigger, and sister Dorothy (Grigger) Villante.
Visitation will be at 10 AM, Friday, September 12, 2025, at Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 28 Monmouth Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. A funeral mass will follow at 11 AM. Cemetery Commitment will be at 1 PM at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
