It is with great sadness that the family of Sylvia Simelson, wife to Steven Simelson, announce her passing on October 21, 2024 at the age of 95. She had been a resident at Woodland Creek Memory Care in Dresher, PA. She was a wonderfully devoted and loving mother to her three surviving daughters Cathy, Nancy and Amy. Sylvia was also Nana to her 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. They loved her dearly.
Sylvia was born in London, England on August 27, 1929. As a teenager, she experienced and lived through the bombings of Europe during WWII. At the conclusion of the war, the family traveled to America to start a new life. She became a long-time resident of Elkins Park. Sylvia was blessed with 59 years of marriage to her husband, Steve. She was a friend to many leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength, and a dose of British humor. After her girls were grown, she became a docent of the Philadelphia Zoo for 20 years, as well as the University of Pennsylvania Museum specializing in Egyptian history. Her other interests included: tennis (playing doubles into her 80’s), Bridge, cooking, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, and watching PBS.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on November 3rd at 10:30 AM at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Trevose, PA.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to either the Philadelphia Zoo or the Dementia Society of America to honor Sylvia.
