William Charles McGarvey

William (Bill) Charles McGarvey, 86, a long-time resident of Lower Gwynedd, passed away on August 9, 2026 in Jefferson Abington Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born on June 6, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA to the late William Thomas and Ruth Elizabeth (Slocum) McGarvey, and graduated from Olney High School in 1959. In 1973 he married his wife, Nancy.

He was employed as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2003 after 40 years of faithful service.

Bill spent many of his retirement years caring for and spending time with James, Brigid, Bear, Hopper, and August, proudly attending their sporting events and activities. Next to Nancy, these were truly the loves of his life, and he cherished every moment he shared with them.

Bill was a life member of the Fort Washington Fire Company, recently celebrating his 60th anniversary. He was a member for more than 50 years of the Free and Accepted Masons (F&AM), with dual membership at Fritz Lodge #308 and Concordia Lodge #67.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Beinhart) McGarvey, daughter Amy (James) Bowe of Montgomeryville, and son Thomas McGarvey of Cary, NC, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, William Jr. and a daughter, Linda Daywalt.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday August 19, 2026 at Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home, 145 Tennis Ave, Ambler PA 19002, immediately preceded by a Masonic service.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Bill’s name may be made to the charity of choice.
