Arlene P Crowell

January 10, 1933 — May 21, 2020

Arlene, loving wife and devoted mother, passed away May 21, 2020 while residing at The Artman Home in Ambler, PA. Born 1933 in Buffalo NY to Valentine and Margaret Prell; Arlene became a Registered Nurse after graduating from the Millard Fillmore School of Nursing. She met her husband, Richard ‘Dick’ Crowell, in Buffalo while caring for his uncle in the hospital. Arlene and Dick had their first two children while residing in Minneapolis, MN and then moved to Ambler, PA where they had two more children and lived for 60 years. Arlene was involved with the Colony Club of Ambler for more than 30 years and was also a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Ambler. She had a passion for painting and pottery and took classes at Spring Lake Farm under the instruction of the talented Marge and Jim O’Reilly. Arlene enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, gardening, and camping. Arlene and family lived abroad in Uppsala, Sweden during a sabbatical year of scientific research for Dick, and they created lasting memories of their adventures as well as friendships that spanned the globe. She loved to travel the world with Dick, visiting 4 continents during his microbiology career, and also traveled throughout the USA visiting all 50 states. After putting her nursing career on hold while raising their 4 young children, Arlene then returned to the nursing profession working part-time for many years until Dick retired. They continued to travel during retirement and would ‘winter’ in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Arlene had a deep love for family and retained her sense of humor throughout her 87 years. Arlene is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard Crowell, children Steven, Kathleen, Wendy, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by daughter Barbara.

Interment will be at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, PA. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
