Carl W Spitko

May 2, 1957 — June 3, 2021

Carl Walter Spitko, 64, of Ambler, PA, passed away with his son by his side on Thursday, June 3, 2021. Carl is survived by his children (Bryant and spouse Courtney, Randi and spouse Billy, Taylor and boyfriend Ian) and their mother Lisa; brothers, John and Dave; and grandchildren, Emmy and Tatum. He was preceded in death by his mother Julia in 1976, brother Stephen in 1986, and father John in 2018.

Born on May 2, 1957, Carl grew up in Ambler, Pennsylvania, attending Wissahickon High School, where he excelled as a track star. From a very young age, Carl took a keen interest in taking things apart and putting them back together again. There was no project too large or too small that he couldn't tackle, doing so with the utmost attention to detail. Displaying his entrepreneurial spirit from an early age, he built a successful lawn cutting business during high school. He then went on to graduate from the University of Delaware with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a concentration in Power Generation and Heat Transfer. In Delaware, he also met his wife of 25 years and later began his career at Hercules, Inc. After a few years in the corporate world, in true Carl fashion, he ventured out on his own in 1988 to launch what would become his proudest career accomplishment, Maintech Inc, in the printed circuit board industry, at its peak employing over 40 people and holding a patent. For the last decade, Carl had the pleasure of running the business with his son. He was widely known in the industry and his technical acumen will be sorely missed.

Music was one of his greatest passions. As a child, he enjoyed playing the piano and DJing for his High School dances. Attending the orchestra, live concerts, watching Live performances on YouTube, and attending American Dinosaur concerts (his son’s band), Carl loved music in all forms. He especially enjoyed singing along to his favorite songs with the baritone harmony. One of his favorite’s was Handel’s Messiah. Carl loved enjoying movies with surround sound and a bucket of buttery popcorn, listening to NPR, taking extravagant vacations, a big juicy steak with salt and pepper, and giving blood through the Red Cross due to his rare blood type. And it was no secret that he was a “Maxxinista.”

Carl will be buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, next to his father and mother, at Upper Dublin Lutheran Church in Ambler, PA. A private graveside service will be held for immediate family and friends.
