Doris T Witkowski

March 24, 1927 — March 21, 2021

Blue Bell, Pa. - Doris C. (Tamor) Torbush Witkowski passed away peacefully on March 21st 2021, just a few days before her her 94th birthday.

Doris was born March 24th, 1927 in Fairlawn, NJ and was a loving mother & grandmother, devoted wife, caring sister and dear friend to many.  She was the daughter of the late Libero and Edith Tamor.

Doris worked for a short time at Standard Oil in Rockefeller Plaza, NY, once lighting the Christmas tree before it became a popular public celebration.   She married Colden T. Torbush in 1953 and was mother to two daughters: Susan and Mary Ellen. Through the years, the family moved from Jersey City to Newtown, CT, finally settling in York, Pa.

Doris often volunteered for York Catholic High School and held fundraisers for Saint Patrick’s Church, where she was a member for five decades.  She was also a member of the Country Club of York, the York Catholic Gaelic Club and the Catholic Women’s Club.

Colden and Doris were married 29 years, before he died in 1982.  Doris  remarried in 1986 to James B. Witkowski.  They were married 30 years, traveling, spending many winters in Jupiter, Fl., and were devoted to spoiling their grandchild with love.

When James died in 2016, Doris moved into the same residence as her beloved sister Ellen, in Blue Bell, Pa. where she spent her final years closer to her children, grandchildren and great-grand daughter.

Doris is survived by her daughters Susan Johanson (Thomas) and Mary Ellen Goslin (Thomas); grandchildren Kristen Johanson, Rebecca Ford (Adam) and Colden Johanson; and great-granddaughter Lillian Ford. Her husbands and her lifelong best friend and sister Ellen Tamor preceded her in death.

Doris will be laid to rest with her first love Colden in Holy Savior Cemetery in York, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to York Catholic High School or Saint Patrick’s Church in York, Pa.

Services and internment will be private.

Arrangements entrusted to Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home.
