Joseph J. Miller

d. April 1, 2021

Joseph J. Miller of Ambler passed away on April 1st after a year-long battle with cancer. Joe was born in Northeastern Pennsylvania to Dr. Joseph and Mrs. Helen Miller and attended high school in West Pittston, PA and college at Bucknell University where he majored in journalism and speech. Joe had his first date with his wife, Susan, when they were in the 8th grade, and they were married while he was a senior at Bucknell. The two of them celebrated 60 years of marriage this past January.

After graduating from Bucknell, Joe served in the Army Artillery for two years. Following his service, he took on a sales internship with Merrill Lynch and became one of the company’s youngest vice-presidents at the age of 30. After his tenure at Merrill Lynch, Joe along with other partners, started Valley Forge Investment Corporation (and later Valley Forge Asset Management) where he served as Chairman until the company was sold in 2000. In retirement, Joe continued to put his investment skills to work in the service of others, especially with Project HOME in Philadelphia, a cause he has supported since the mid-1980s. Joe was passionate about golf and fishing, and he especially enjoyed making time for family and friends at the shore, in Florida, or at an Eagles game.

In addition to his wife, Susan, Joe leaves behind his daughter Kimberly Linnell and husband Julian; daughter Linda Channing and husband David; son Joseph Miller; and son Timothy Miller and wife Michelle; his brother, William Miller; and ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cynthia.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 on Friday, April 23rd at their church, St. Alphonsus, located at 33 Conwell Drive, Maple Glen, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 with Father Ed Hallinan, a long-time family friend, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Project HOME with “in honor of Joseph Miller” on the memo line. Any gifts made in Joe’s honor will be designated for Project Home’s scholarship fund. Checks can be sent to Project HOME, Development Dept., 1515 Fairmount Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130. Online gifts can be made in tribute to Joseph Miller at https://projecthome.org/donate .
