Maxine Ida May Tyree

January 31, 1944 — March 8, 2023

Maxine Ida May (Rogers) Tyree, 79, of Spring House Estates in Lower Gwynedd Township, PA, passed away on March 8, 2023 at home.

If there was a child to be helped, Maxine was the one to do it.

The daughter of a Methodist minister, Maxine was born in Deland, FL to Kenneth and Wilma Rogers on 1/31/1944. She went to school at Gainesville High School in Gainesville, FL and Miami Edison High School in Miami FL. After graduating from Scarritt College for Christian Workers in Nashville, TN, Maxine married her high school sweetheart, Tom Tyree on July 23, 1966 in Sarasota, FL. In her career, Maxine worked tirelessly to make the world a better place. She worked as a Director of Christian Education at First Methodist Church in Gainesville, FL, then as a Social Worker at Children’s Aid Society in Norristown, PA. She co-founded “What In The World'' where she and her co-presidents (the ladies were thick as thieves) built hands-on study units for pre-school children. After a short stint working with Allen Organ Company, a church organ company, Maxine served joyfully as our church administrative assistant at Jarrettown United Methodist Church. But mostly, Maxine is remembered as a foster mother to over 150 children, changing the lives of so many - well, that and for concocting her own unique version of bi-focals which involved two separate pairs of glasses that she wore at the same time. Classic Maxine.

Maxine was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends in the loving home that she and Tom built. She is survived by her husband Tom, sons Ian, Ted (Lisa), Ty (Maureen), Rafeal (Haydes), and daughter Tamara: grandchildren Evelyn, Gregory, Nerissa, Matthew, Elizabeth, Adriana, Houston, Carolyn, Tucker, Tommy, Analise, Sean, Natalia, Lauren, and Owen: great-grandson Lorenzo. While that is a semi-official list, the reality is that Maxine was an honorary sister, mother, aunt and grandmother to so many more. Each person that she chose to include in her family held a special place in her heart. Maxine created a community of vibrant people that stretched around the world. Interlinked with all of the wonderful personalities who passed through her world, her network is like the six degrees of Maxine Tyree - step aside Kevin Bacon.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 am on Saturday March 18th at Jarrettown United Methodist Church (1460 Limekiln Pike, Dresher, PA 19025) followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 am with Pastor Bob Strauss officiating. Burial will follow at Jarrettown United Methodist Church cemetery in front of the church.

Maxine’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all who helped her on her health journey over the last 18 months. From the many medical teams who helped to the countless individuals who reached out to offer a listening ear and support. You all meant the world to her. Her family is eternally grateful for giving them a few extra innings with Maxine.

Maxine’s legacy is one of love, friendship and service - so in lieu of flowers or memorial donations, she would want everyone to do what she has done all of her life. Please find someone who needs a pick-me-up - family members, friends, or someone in your community - and invite them out for a meal to build them up and up and up.

For those of you are able to join us on March 18 to celebrate Maxine, please know:

• In addition to a message, eulogy, Bible verses, and singing, there will be open mic available for you to share.

• In an attempt to reflect Maxine’s happiness, colorful dress is not only appropriate, but it is encouraged. Please come as colorful as Maxine’s personality.

Arrangements are being made by Shaeff-Myers funeral home.
