Obituary

Ralph Wesley Hedrick Sr, “Wes”, 92, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2022 at Wesley Enhanced Living, Upper Moreland, his home for the past 6 months.

Wes was born in Spring City, PA to Maybelle and Cyril Hedrick. He married Gertrude Hannes on February 25, 1950 and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Wes worked for many years as a fleet mechanic for Reit Fuel Oil. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he served over two years fixing tanks, often on the battlefield.  He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Willow Grove where he served as a deacon, living out his faith by serving others. Wes had talents and skills like non other; from tree work, car and truck repair and refurbishing, to home remodeling and construction. There wasn’t anything he could not fix or a tool he hadn’t used. He and Gertie were master gardeners establishing and maintaining beautiful magazine worthy flower gardens at their home. In his later years he enjoyed woodworking and was a master maker having created grandfather clocks and mantle clocks for each of his four children and numerous items for his grandchildren. All who knew him received a beautiful handcrafted wine cork trivet trimmed in wood. Wes was a gentle soul; quiet, with a sweet smile complete with a dimple in his cheek; always ready to lend a helping hand.  He was a man of integrity; full of wisdom and love that he shared with all. He will always be remembered by his sweet adages, “Don’t take any wooden nickels” and when asked how he was, “I am miserable as ever!”

Wes was much beloved by his children: Cheryl Kurpiel (Raymond), Chip Hedrick (Catherine), Pamela Antochy (Alex) and son in law, David Dawson: 9 grandchildren; Melissa,  Rachel, Jonelle, Kerri, Lindsay, Bryan, Brianne, Robert, and Christopher: 15 Great-Grandchildren; Ellie, Matthew, Logan, Emmett, Kira, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Sophia, Justin Jr, Reese, Brooke,  Wesley, Graham, Ryan and Peter. Wes is preceded in death by his wife Gertrude and daughter, Wendy Dawson.

There will be no formal service at this time.

The family of Wes Hedrick wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Wesley Enhanced Living, Upper Moreland and their staff for the care Wes received for the past six months as well as Accent Care Hospice Services and his nurse, Mary, who provided compassionate care and comfort as he came to the end of his earthly journey.
