Rita D. O'Neal

August 4, 1945 — January 2, 2022

Rita O’Neal (nee Davis) of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on January 2, 2022 at the age of 76. She passed away after courageous battle with dementia. Rita was cared for by the health care providers at Arden Courts, Edge Hill Nursing Home and Abington Memorial Hospital. The O’Neal Family will be forever grateful to them all.

Rita was born on August 4, 1945 and raised in Philadelphia (Aramingo Avenue and Memphis Street), Pennsylvania. She attended Little Flower High School and was married to the now deceased Stuart T. O’Neal, Jr. for over 40 years. They raised two sons (Stuart “Tye” O’Neal III and Kelly O’Neal) in the Maple Glen section of Upper Dublin Township, and then in the Fort Washington section of Upper Dublin for close to 30 years. Rita was a valued employee of both the YMCA of Ambler and subsequently, ACTS Life Retirement Communities. Both these companies affirmatively helped and aided people, so it was no surprise she wanted to be a part of these organizations.

Rita loved her family, and loved her two sons and grandkids. She was likewise adored by all of them. She always had a soft spot in her heart for those less fortunate, as well as animals (she cherished her dogs), and took care of stray cats and dogs without hesitation. Rita is survived by her son, Stuart “Tye” O’Neal III and his fiancé, Andrea Johnson, and by son Kelly O’Neal and his wife, Jamie Stanley O’Neal, and grandchildren, whom she cherished: Owen Joseph O’Neal, Molly Madeleine O’Neal, Leah Marie O’Neal, Ryann O’Neal and Regan O’Neal. Additionally, she is also survived by her sister, Sister Constance Davis of Aston, Pennsylvania. To say they will all miss her terribly is an understatement.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Josephine Davis of Philadelphia.

Rita had many, many friends. She enjoyed Maple Manor Swim Club (a 30 plus year member) where she made lifelong friends, she loved watching the Eagles, visiting the shore, socializing with everyone and most of all, spending time with her family. She was absolutely selfless with her time and love, and always helped others, no matter what circumstance (animals included).

Given the COVID pandemic, a private ceremony will occur this Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ambler, Pennsylvania. The family plans on having a Memorial Celebration at Old York Road Country Club for Rita in late April, so everyone can gather freely (hopefully) and safe enjoy a day in her honor.
